Caitlan's Great North Run part 2

Saturday 18/7/09: I bought new trainers! They are sweet Asics and they make a massive difference. I don't care if it's mainly psychological, whatever works.  My retired trainers were like puppets.

I went to a brilliant running shoe store - The Running Room (pewter-esque shoe sole-shaped door handles...yeow!!) where they give you a shoe fitting "consultation".  A kind girl watched me run(ish) on a treadmill and told me my left foot's lopsided, or slightly "pronated". I tried on all recommended mild support-type shoes and I sprinted on machine in each pair which her watching from behind (again, kind girl). I kind of like knowing that I have the right shoes for the right feet, if you know what I mean?

While running I remembered why I hate the treadmill. Aside from the fact that someone's watching and it's running in the same place, its also the 'artwork'  mincing around the treadmill. YOU KNOW what I mean. While I was running, there were several posters. An allegedly inspirational photo of someone famous running and another of someone famous winning a race ecstatically. Let's be honest, that's never going to be me and it just annoys me to see all these runners who don't break a sweat. You know I just thought to myself, "I'm never going to look or run like that, so what's the point here."

I'm looking forward to running outside....

Monday 19/7/09: So what do you know I have the lovely Water of Leith and Dean Village by my house, so ran nearly 2 miles down there! It was great - really lovely green place to run and lots of other people around. Went straight to yoga afterwards. That was a bit much, I nearly lost the plot half way though the session i.e. "Where am I"?  However, it's about building up stamina isn't it and so I'm thinking it's still good to combine the two types of exercise.

Tuesday 20/7/09: News broadcast announced that two bodies were found in flat Dean Village last night. Ack!  And I was just there last night. Scary...

Wednesday 21/7/09: Day of REST er... went to a chocolate tasting evening at Coco's. Well deserved, I thought.

Thursday 23/7/09: 2 mile run and straight to 1.5hr yoga session. This combo makes me feel hard core! This time didn't feel dizzy or like I wanted to puke, which I think anyone would call an improvement.

Training wise I should be running 4 x times a week, doing between 3-4 miles a session with 2 days of cross/strength training. I'm somewhat comfortable at 2 miles now....hmmm.

Friday 24/7/09: ....Lets see if I motivate myself to run after work on a Friday...course the fact that it's RAINING ALL THE TIME doesn't help.

Until next week when Caitlan attempts THREE MILES  and tries to combine running with SOCIALISING!

Back to Week one...

Jog on to week three...
