Katelyn was just fifteen years old when she lost her life to this cruel disease. It all happened so fast. Katelyn was fully vaccinated with the MenB injection, but unfortunately had a rare strain of MenB that wasn't covered. Katelyn only showed symptoms of a bug for a couple of days, leading up to the fatal day. When things developed more seriously it still took me a while to get a doctor to pay more attention.
By the time she was seen and finally given the crucial antibiotics it was too late for our angel. Please know the symptoms and listen to your gut instinct and never ever allow a doctor to push you away if your gut is telling you something is wrong. Katelyn's strain developed from an ear infection and the strain she had kills within hours.
