Oxfordshire student to run marathon in memory of best friend

18 year old Honor McFarlane from Radcot, Oxfordshire, will be one of our youngest London Marathon runners this year as she takes on the challenge of a lifetime to raise funds in memory of her best friend.

Honor, who is a student at Abingdon and Witney College said: “I chose to run the marathon for MRF because in January 2015 my gorgeous friend Abigail Kelly died from meningitis aged 13. It all happened very quickly, within 24hrs. We had been the best of friends since we were seven years old and growing up we did everything together from climbing trees to riding ponies. She was not just a best friend but more a sister.

“My life changed massively. Her death has left a huge hole in my heart and my life and not a day goes by where I don't think about her and miss her beyond words, and this for some strange reason has motivated me to do something I can genuinely say I never would have dreamt of doing.

“Every penny you donate goes towards helping the invaluable work of MRF to help them reach their vision of a world free of meningitis. All donations mean more to me than you will ever know.”
