Advocacy and campaigns

We use advocacy and campaigns to raise awareness of meningitis and influence health policy change around the world.

To defeat meningitis, it needs to be a global health priority. That’s why we put the voices of people affected by meningitis in front of those who make decisions about healthcare. And why we support communities to drive change, giving them the tools and evidence they need to make this happen.

Our campaigns promote health-seeking behaviour, so lives can be saved. Through year-round activity, we make sure people across the world know what meningitis is, how to protect themselves against it, how to recognise its symptoms and when to get support and advice.

Race to 2030 is our advocacy programme which supports civil society to understand and engage with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Global Road Map to Defeat Meningitis by 2030. Including key explainers, latest news, case studies and primary research, it helps advocates all over the world follow progress, so they can work together to demand the change needed for the visionary goals of the WHO’s Road Map to be realised.
Every year, on 5th October, people come together to mark World Meningitis Day, the world’s largest day of collective action on meningitis. Pioneered by our member network, CoMO (and now coordinated by the Meningitis Research Foundation and CoMO teams), there are plenty of ways to get involved in World Meningitis Day, so we continue to raise awareness and encourage global action to defeat meningitis.
The Meningitis Progress Tracker brings together multiple data sources on meningitis into one central, open-access hub, so people can understand the scale and complexity of the disease. Now evolving into an advocacy tool, our vision is for it to be used by advocates across the world to provide the much-needed evidence to support change.
Every year the World Health Organisation (WHO) coordinates World Immunization Week, in the last week of April. We support the week by providing a meningitis immunisation toolkit, a free suite of digital resources to raise awareness of the vaccinations available to protect against this deadly and devastating disease.
The Meningitis Flag was created by the meningitis community, for the community. Having been instrumental in its co-creation, we are proud to support this unifying and universal symbol which aims to increase public understanding of meningitis through powerful collaboration with leading para-athletes.
By working together as a unified voice, we can call for the positive change needed to defeat meningitis. People directly affected by meningitis are the most passionate advocates, so our project to strengthen their voices is a powerful and practical way to increase the impact of their efforts.
