My son Bailey was diagnosed with meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia at age seven months in October 2010.

I took him to our local GP as I noticed he wasn’t feeling well early morning, but was reassured it was a viral Infection.

"They told me the possible risks of amputation or loss of senses with a 50% chance of survival"

As the day carried on he deteriorated and became hard to wake, was cranky and sick. I rushed him to A&E where they rushed him through to resus immediately. After taking him through the bed was surrounded by doctors and consultants. Not long after they gave me the dreaded news my son was diagnosed with meningitis and septicaemia. They told me the possible risks of amputation or loss of senses and with a 50% chance of survival because of the affect and seriousness of the illness.

But after all the routine procedures and six days in hospital (high dependency), my son came home from hospital with the all clear.

Thank you to all the staff whom cared for my son at North Manchester General Hospital – you’ve made a well loved and adored boy even more appreciated. X
