Thankfully, with assistance, he has physically recovered and is now a very happy two year old toddler enjoying the 'terrible two's! Only time will tell if there are other issues we have to contend with. Two very traumatised parents at the time, continued to breathe and hope beyond what the medical staff could diagnose/prognose and now feel extremely grateful and proud of our son. We are also acutely aware that we were lucky and our situation could have been so much different, and sadly is for other families.
In 2013 I secured a place in the London Marathon and chose to run for Meningitis Research Foundation and raised over £5,000. What an amazing day the Marathon was; brilliant weather, fantastic crowds and a great run for me, 3 hours 27 minutes 23 seconds! Felt really good all they way round and stuck to my target pace, had tired legs when I finished but still enjoyed the celebratory pint at the end. A huge thank you to all my generous sponsors it honoured Ruben and motivated me tremendously. Also amazed at how many people have told me of their Meningitis stories too, sadly it is still very real for too many people.
